Progress Report

(Progress Report for the STANDARDS IMPLEMENTATION ACTION PLAN)
[SID PROCESS, TASK 7]
School Year: 2004-2005

School: Olomana

Date: 12-8-04

A. Describe the extent to which the SID Parameters were achieved.

Due to the revision and rewrite of the SID Action Plan, it was determined that goals of the Work Forces were met. To that end, it became necessary to merge Work Forces into Learning Communities. In this way, we were better able to address student achievement in the curricular areas as well as the format of the 6 Images of Success. We also chose to concentrate on two goals in our SID Action Plan. First is “Literacy through Reading and Writing”, and second is, “Career and Life Skills”.

B. Evaluate the implementation of the Standards Implementation Action Plan.
    1. Describe the changes, adjustments, and/or modifications made to the Action Plan and the reasons.

Learning Community Chairs have taken charge of developing and implementing all Staff Professional Development days to reflect goals and outcomes of the Action Plan. Two mentor teachers are assigned to teachers to help develop standards based unit plans and to help design classrooms to reflect standards based instruction and the school’s SID goals.

The Language Arts, Fine Arts, Technology, Health and Guidance, Reading, Writing and Social Studies Learning Communities are compiling a comprehensive folder of each curricular unit plan. The CSSS Learning Community will collect and track data on student services. They will also report on all of their efforts to provide better guidelines and procedures to reflect this in their CSSS folder. The Positive School Climate Learning Community will show evidence of all the school activities held during the year at all the different sites.

Olomana Youth Center has developed a data base to better track and analyze student progress in reading. A reading resource teacher is spearheading the pre, mid and post testing of students along with the school’s librarian. Reading resource teacher is also going into classrooms to help teachers with reading strategies in their curricular areas.

    2. Describe the extent to which student achievements targets were met.

First two Professional Development days were successes. 50% of the teachers now have individual classroom standards visible in their classrooms. Progress reports to reflect standards-based instruction as well as reporting student progress on the GLO’s are being implemented school-wide. All teachers are projecting showing standards based classroom instruction by Dec. 15. A progress check on the SID Learning Community folders will be done at the next SID meeting on Dec. 15.

Teachers are holding more collaborative networking and discussion on improving assessment and unit plans.

    3. Describe the extent to which other targets (cross-cutting issues) were met, if applicable.

The Ohana Based Management System is in place at Olomana Youth Center. There have been several activities which have included parents and community partners. PCNC is working closely with classrooms and parents to continue dialogue and maintain good relationships through Ohana night and training.

School held its first Parent Teacher Conferences on October 4 – 8. Teachers met with parents to discuss students progress reports and how they are acclimating themselves to campus life at Olomana Youth Center.

Olomana made 100% Child Count on Dec. 1, 2004
